Fincantieri Marinette Marine
Naval shipyard subsidiary of Fincantieri S.p.A. (Italy), builder of the Freedom-variant Littoral Combat Ship and current prime builder of the Constellation-class (FFG-62) frigate; one of TOTE Services' LSM VCM subcontractors.
Marinette Marine Corporation was founded in 1942 on the Menominee River in Marinette, Wisconsin, during the WWII buildup of American shipbuilding. The Manitowoc Company bought the then privately-held yard in 2000 for about $48M; Fincantieri S.p.A. acquired it in January 2009 for roughly $120M in cash, initially alongside Lockheed Martin as a minority investor. The yard partnered with Lockheed Martin to build one of the two competing Littoral Combat Ship designs, launching USS Freedom in September 2006, and won the contract to build the Navy's Constellation-class (FFG-62) guided-missile frigates in April 2020. Its 300,000-sq-ft riverside facility includes a 4,500-ton launch system and cranes up to 275 tons for modular ship construction.
