GEODNET
Decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) of crowdsourced GNSS reference stations delivering centimeter-level RTK positioning corrections; founded in 2021, with Mike Horton as project creator/CEO.
GEODNET is a decentralized GNSS (satellite positioning) reference-station network that uses a DePIN (decentralized physical infrastructure network) model: independent operators host low-cost base-station 'miners' that stream raw satellite observation data to the network in exchange for GEOD token rewards, and the aggregated data is processed into RTK correction streams sold to commercial customers in agriculture, autonomous vehicles, drones, robotics, and surveying. Founded in 2021 and organized under the nonprofit GEODNET Foundation (established in Singapore), the network scaled to more than 10,000-20,000+ base stations worldwide within a few years, making it one of the largest RTK correction networks globally. Mike Horton, credited as the network's project creator and CEO, previously founded Crossbow Technology (a MEMS sensor-systems company sold to Moog in 2011) and co-founded silicon-photonics gyroscope maker Anello Photonics; the founding team also includes blockchain lead David Chen and GNSS lead Yudan Yi (Ph.D. in geodesy, Ohio State). Horton later founded chip company HYFIX Spatial Intelligence, which integrates with GEODNET's correction network for drone and robotics positioning.
