LAV III / LAV 6.0 Upgrade (LAVUP)
Series of Canadian government awards to GDLS-Canada to upgrade the Light Armoured Vehicle III fleet to LAV 6.0: October 2011 sole-source contract worth $1.064B (incl. taxes) for 550 vehicles; November 2012 amendment of $151M for 66 additional (LRSS reconnaissance) vehicles; February 2017 contract of $404M (incl. taxes) for 141 LORIT chassis. Final deliveries July 2019; full operational capability July 2019.
The LAV 6.0 upgrade replaced the LAV III's flat-bottom hull with a blast-deflecting double-V hull and energy-attenuating seating, driven by mine/IED lessons from Canada's Afghanistan deployment, and paired that protection increase with a new 450-hp power pack and upgraded suspension to offset the added armor weight.
