AFRL Next-Gen Command and Control — Border Security Sensor Network
$2.7M Air Force Research Laboratory award to Picogrid for the Next-Gen Command and Control program, modernizing the BMGR East border-security sensor network.
The Next-Gen Command and Control program modernizes Barry M. Goldwater Range East (BMGR East), a remote Arizona training range run by the 56th Fighter Wing near the US-Mexico border, by consolidating fragmented, separately operated sensor systems into one interoperable network. Picogrid is retrofitting previously isolated sensors with its Lander hardware and connecting them through its Legion middleware to operators at Luke Air Force Base, monitoring roadways, infrastructure, and natural resource areas (including Sonoran pronghorn habitat). The 56th Range Management Office credited the program with a manpower reduction of more than 70% versus manual patrols and the identification of hundreds of illegal border crossings.
