Ashley Montanaro
CEO and co-founder of Phasecraft, and Professor of Quantum Computation at the University of Bristol.
Montanaro holds a PhD in quantum computing from the University of Bristol (2007, supervised by Richard Jozsa), followed by postdoctoral research at Cambridge before returning to Bristol. He held an EPSRC Early Career Fellowship (2014-2019) and is now Professor of Quantum Computation in Bristol's School of Mathematics, working on quantum algorithms and computational complexity. He was awarded the London Mathematical Society's Whitehead Prize in 2017 and holds an ERC Consolidator Grant. In 2019 he co-founded Phasecraft alongside Toby Cubitt and John Morton (both UCL), building near-term quantum algorithms — notably for materials discovery relevant to clean energy — in partnership with hardware providers including Google, IBM, and Rigetti.
