Erdal Çayırcı is a retired Turkish Army colonel who built a dual NATO/academic career after leaving active duty — heading the CAX (Computer-Assisted Exercise) Support Branch at NATO's Joint Warfare Centre in Stavanger, Norway, while serving as a professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Stavanger. He holds an MS in computer engineering from Middle East Technical University (1995) and a PhD in computer engineering from Boğaziçi University (2000), and has authored more than 150 papers, including the widely cited 2002 survey "A Survey on Sensor Networks." He founded ETE Technology in İzmir, Turkey, in 2015, and today also chairs the board of Norway-based Dataunitor AS.
