Luca Rossettini founded D-Orbit in 2011 and serves as CEO. Before founding D-Orbit, he left a career as an Airborne Officer in 1998, earned a PhD in Advanced Space Propulsion with honors from Politecnico di Milano (2008), and received a Fulbright scholarship in 2009 for a Certificate in Technology Entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley followed by a 2010 internship at NASA Ames Research Center. During his PhD he founded IRTA (Imaging and Research Technology Association), an advanced-vision/motion-tracking research venture, and in 2006 co-founded the Italian chapter of sustainability NGO The Natural Step. D-Orbit was co-founded alongside Renato Panesi, Thomas Panozzo, and Giuseppe Tussiwand. Rossettini also served as President of AIPAS, the Italian space SME industrial association, from 2017 until December 2021.
